At Oohganics, we believe conscious beauty shouldn’t mean compromising on performance.
Every product we choose is reviewed against the Oohganic Beauty Standard – our framework for selecting products with considered formulations, ingredient transparency and more conscious choices.
Our approach isn’t about labelling ingredients as simply “good” or “bad”. We look at the formulation as a whole, why ingredients are used, how the product performs and the values of the brand behind it.
1. Ingredient Integrity
We prioritise products formulated with naturally derived, plant-based, botanical and certified organic ingredients, where appropriate.
We favour purposeful formulations and brands that are transparent about their ingredients and why they are used.
We recognise that safe and effective cosmetics may also require functional ingredients such as preservatives, surfactants, conditioning agents, emulsifiers and stabilisers to maintain product safety, stability and performance.
Natural doesn’t automatically mean better, and synthetic doesn’t automatically mean harmful. What matters to us is a considered formulation and transparency about what’s inside.
2. Our Ingredient Exclusions
As a baseline, we seek to curate products formulated without:
- ✖ Parabens
- ✖ SLS & SLES
- ✖ Phthalates
- ✖ Aluminium salts in deodorants
- ✖ Undisclosed synthetic fragrance
Rather than maintaining an unnecessarily extensive blacklist, we review products individually and consider the purpose, safety and role of ingredients within the complete formulation.
Where fragrance is used, we favour products using naturally derived aromatic ingredients and essential oils, while recognising that fragrance ingredients may be declared as Parfum within an ingredient list.
3. Performance Matters
Clean and conscious beauty should still work.
We look for products that balance thoughtful ingredient choices with genuine performance, because we don’t believe you should have to choose between the two.
This means we may accept safe, necessary functional ingredients when they improve a product’s stability, preservation, texture, usability or performance.
4. Conscious Beauty
Beyond ingredients, we consider the wider choices a brand makes.
Cruelty-Free
We prioritise brands committed to cruelty-free practices and encourage recognised certification or supplier verification where available.
Packaging
We favour recyclable, reusable, refillable or reduced-impact packaging wherever practical.
Responsible Sourcing
We prioritise responsibly sourced ingredients and certified organic botanicals where available.
Australian & Independent
We love discovering and supporting independent Australian beauty and wellness brands, while remaining open to exceptional brands from around the world that align with our philosophy.
5. Transparency Over Perfection
We don’t believe conscious beauty should be built around fear.
Instead, we want to make it easier to understand what’s in the products you use and why it’s there.
Where a product carries additional credentials such as Certified Organic, 100% Naturally Derived, Vegan, Australian Made, B Corp Certified or Silicone-Free, we’ll highlight these individually where they have been verified and apply to that particular product or brand.
Our standard will continue to evolve as beauty science, formulation, regulation and sustainability practices evolve too.
